Lazy friendship “challenge” week four: Seeking joy
A series of simple, seasonal activities to do with friends
Welcome to the final week of our Lazy Friendship “Challenge” — a series of simple, seasonal activities to foster connection without actually being that challenging at all.
Each week, you’ll get a suggestion for something to do with a friend that can be completed in your PJs, without leaving the house and while barely leaving your couch. (While we love IRL time with friends, we actually suggest doing each of these over video call, even if you live close by, to make them as easy to fit into your days as possible.) Each can take as long as you have time for and as little as five minutes (which is five minutes of relaxed togetherness that you wouldn’t have had otherwise!!). And each is designed to cultivate a different delightful feeling that will hopefully counteract some of the stress or gloom of the season.
Invite a friend (or a few!) to join you in completing the un-challenging “challenge” — we hope it makes your mood a little brighter and your friendship a little closer. And remember: These activities could be great to revisit all winter long!
Lazy Friendship “Challenge” Week 4: Create joy with a silly chaos selfie
The holidays are a time to be surrounded by loved ones, and yet our friends can sometimes get a little lost in the shuffle of this week. The pressure to prioritize our families and romantic partners is at a peak, everyone’s traveling and extra hard to pin down, and even if you have a free moment, you may have very little social energy to spare.
But we still want you to find a micro moment of connection and joy with a friend by leaning into the chaos and sending a silly selfie.
Unlike the staged social media posts or picture-perfect holiday cards peppering your fridge, these are meant to invite your friend into your life as you are, right in this moment, but with a little extra playfulness to make them (and probably yourself) smile. Maybe you’re unshowered and in your PJs on Christmas morning, and you stick every bow you can find scattered on the floor on your head. You could pose with your family pet or with all the stuffies in your childhood bedroom. If all else fails, make your silliest face and snap a picture. Ultimately, the goal is just to show your friend you’re thinking of them and want to make them smile.

Optional delights: Record a short video with a silly holiday greeting (bonus points if you sing it) or just let out a goofy stress-release sound. We have a tradition of literally MOANING to one another, and it always makes us laugh, but we also love a good ‘ole meow.
